City gets creative with arts plan

It’s been a busy year for the arts in Providence. The city’s
Department of Art, Culture and Tourism has been working to draft,
present and implement “Creative Providence,” an ambitious, 10-year
cultural plan designed to boost local arts-related activities and
investment.

Providence bets on creativity

The vision is grand and ambitious, both in the big picture and in the details.
Providence becomes "a dynamic, regional arts market and center for creativity." Arts and crafts are woven into the fabric of the city, showcased in public spaces, in a public gallery and in private buildings. New galleries and performance venues thrive. Grants and business opportunities abound. Artists serve on city boards and have power and real influence.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Flanked by dozens of local arts and cultural leaders, Mayor David N. Cicilline on Friday unveiled a sweeping plan designed to boost arts-related activities and investment throughout the city and to make good on Providence's bid to become a "creative capital" for the 21st century.

David N. Cicilline today unveiled a new arts and culture plan for the
city entitled “Creative Providence: A Cultural Plan for the Creative
Sector,” the outcome of a nearly two-year, $70,000 community-wide
planning process designed to strengthen and promote the arts in the
capital city.
